Three Players Named to All-UAA Men’s Tennis Team

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Three Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis players were honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) coaches on Tuesday with recognition on the 2020 UAA Men's Tennis All-Association Team. Sophomore Sam Gibson (Chico, Calif. / Pleasant Valley) received accolades for his play at both third singles and third doubles while junior Ray Boppana (Boxborough, Mass. / Acton Boxborough Regional) was honored at first singles and freshman Jonathan Nottingham (Philadelphia, Pa. / Masterman High School) joined the two on the squad as Gibson's partner at third doubles.

Gibson ended the season with a 13-9 mark with three of his wins coming against nationally ranked teams. The pair of Gibson and Nottingham posted a mark of 3-1 in the third spot and recorded three additional wins in tournament play and at second doubles. Two of the tandem's three wins at third doubles came against nationally ranked opponents.

Boppana, who is making his second appearance on the All-UAA team, finished the season with a 10-8 mark. In the fall, the junior advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Southeast Regional Championship.
