#15 Tartans Top Franciscan, 9-0

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The 15th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team defeated Francsican University by a 9-0 score on Saturday, March 13, a day after topping Grove City College 8-1 in the team's season opener. The Tartans are now 2-0 for the year.

The Tartans swept through doubles play with a pair of 8-0 victories at first and third doubles. Sophomore Matthew Poh (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Mira Costa) and freshman Nadim Motaghedi (Cerritos, Calif. / Whitney) finished first in the number one position before the sophomore pair of Raahil Doshi (Singapore, Singapore / Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Singapore) and Edward Chen (Boston, Mass. / Shanghai American School) closed out their win in the number three position.

Poh was the first to finish singles play as he won 6-0, 6-0 at the first position against Gary Pierre. Senior Joshua Pinckney (Atlanta, Ga. / The Westminster Schools) clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win at third singles against Luke Conrad.

The Tartans will next play Division I Saint Francis University on Friday, March 19.
