#15 Tartans Win a Pair of Matches Over Wooster

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis program, ranked 15th in Division III, hosted The College of Wooster Saturday afternoon for a pair of matches. The Cardinal and Gray were victorious in both matches by the identical score of 7-2. The two wins moves the Tartans record to 4-1.

The Tartans swept doubles play in the first match with the tandem of sophomore Edward Chen (Boston, Mass. / Shanghai American School) and freshman Arjan Bedi (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) claiming the first point with an 8-2 win at third doubles. Senior Ray Boppana (Boxborough, Mass. / Acton Boxborough Regional) and freshman Nadim Motaghedi (Cerritos, Calif. / Whitney) then won at first doubles by an 8-2 win before the duo of sophomore Matthew Poh (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Mira Costa) and freshman Michael Fourchy (Fresno, Calif. / Clovis North) completed the sweep with an 8-3 victory at second doubles.

Bedi and Motaghedi then took the first two points of singles play, winning in straight sets, to seal the win. Bedi won 6-2, 6-0 at four and Motaghedi won 7-5, 6-0 at three.

In the nightcap, the Tartans took a 2-1 advantage following doubles play. The scoring for the Tartans started with an 8-3 at second doubles by senior Joshua Pinckney (Atlanta, Ga. / The Westminster Schools) and freshman Jaden D'Abreo (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit). The third doubles team of Motaghedi and freshman Derek Wong (La Jolla, Calif. / Francis Parker) recorded the second point for the Tartans with an 8-2 win.

The home team then claimed the first three points in singles play, winning at four, five and six, to seal their second win of the day. Wong started with a 6-1, 6-4 win at the four spot followed by D'Abreo winning at five by the scores of 6-2, 6-3. Sophomore Jonathan Nottingham (Philadelphia, Pa. / Masterman High School) then won 6-4, 6-3 at the top spot to secure the Tartans fourth win of the season.

The Tartans travel to Grove City College on Saturday, March 27 for a 12:00 p.m. match.
