#15 Tartans Win Thriller Over Division I Saint Joseph's

(HARMAR, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis, ranked 15th in Division III, hosted Division I Saint Joseph's University on Friday at the indoor courts at Alpha Tennis in Harmar, Pennsylvania. The Tartans won a 4-3 contest to improve to 6-1 overall while playing by Division I game scoring.

The Tartans third doubles tandem of freshman Jaden D'Abreo (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit) and freshman Michael Fourchy (Fresno, Calif. / Clovis North) recorded a 6-3 win, but the Hawks claimed the single doubles point after collecting wins at the first and second spots.

After the Hawks made the score 2-0 with a win at first singles, sophomore Jonathan Nottingham (Philadelphia, Pa. / Masterman High School) claimed the Tartans first point with a 7-6(9), 6-3 win at second singles. Freshman Brandon Aprill (Mountain View, Calif. / The Menlo School) then knotted the score at 2-2 with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 win at the third spot.

A straight set victory at fourth singles by freshman Nadim Motaghedi (Cerritos, Calif. / Whitney) winning by the scores 6-4, 6-4 put the Tartans ahead 3-2. Saint Joseph's then won at fifth singles before freshman Derek Wong (La Jolla, Calif. / Francis Parker) sealed the win with a third set super tiebreaker at six. Wong won by the scores of 6-7(6), 6-4, 1-0 (10-6).

The Tartans return to action on Saturday, April 3 with a 12:00 p.m. match at Allegheny College.
