#15 Tartans Run Winning Streak to Five with a 9-0 Win at Allegheny

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis, ranked 15th in Division III, traveled north to Meadville, Pennsylvania, to take on the Gators of Allegheny College Saturday afternoon. The Tartans defeated the Gators 9-0 to run their winning streak to five and improve to 7-1 overall.

For the fifth time this season, the Cardinal and Gray swept doubles play. The first point came at third doubles when sophomore Edward Chen (Boston, Mass. / Shanghai American School) and freshman Derek Wong (La Jolla, Calif. / Francis Parker) won 8-4 before the freshmen tandem of Nadim Motaghedi (Cerritos, Calif. / Whitney) and Brandon Aprill (Mountain View, Calif. / The Menlo School) won at the top spot, 8-5.

The sweep didn't come easy, as the Tartans second doubles team of freshman Arjan Bedi (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) and sophomore Raahil Doshi (Singapore, Singapore / Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Singapore) won a tiebreaker match, 8-7(2).

Wong made the score 4-0 collecting the first win in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory at the third spot. Motaghedi then recorded the match clinching point with 6-1, 6-1 win at second singles.

The Tartans will be idle until Saturday, April 17 when they entertain Division I Duquesne University.
