Tartans End Season at NCAA Championships, Drop 5-4 Heartbreaker to George Fox

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team competed in the third round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships on Sunday and dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker to George Fox University.

The Tartans second doubles tandem of sophomore Matthew Poh (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Mira Costa) and freshman Jaden D'Abreo (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit) won 8-5 to take the lone doubles point for the Cradinal and Gray.

In singles play, freshman Nadim Motaghedi (Cerritos, Calif. / Whitney) won at the fourth spot, 6-1, 6-2 to knot the score at 2-all before sophomore Raahil Doshi (Singapore, Singapore / Anglo - Chinese School (Independent), Singapore) gave the Tartans a 3-2 advantage. Doshi won 6-4, 6-3 at five.

George Fox then won at second and six singles to retake the lead at 4-3. The Tartans again tied the score when freshman Brandon Aprill (Mountain View, Calif. / The Menlo School) won a three-set decision at third singles winning 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. George Fox claimed the team victory with a three-set win at first singles to advance to the NCAA quarterfinals.

Carnegie Mellon finishes the season with an overall record of 10-3. The Bruins move to 12-4.
