Tartans Battle Division II Edinboro

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team played Division II Edinboro University on Saturday night at the Alpha Tennis Center and drop a tight 4-3 decision. The Tartans are now 3-3 on the season while Edinboro improves to 4-3.

The Fighting Scots took a 1-0 lead after doubles play, winning at all three positions. The Tartans then collected points at third, fifth and sixth singles. Sophomore Nicholas Wernink (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Friends Academy) won 6-1, 7-5 in the third spot, junior Matthew Poh (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Mira Costa) won 6-4, 6-1 at five while freshman Benny Zhou (Allen, Texas / iUniversity Prep) closed the night with a 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory at six singles.

The Tartans will next compete against Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, March 5 to kick off their spring break trip to Orlando, Florida.
