Wang Secures Match in 5-2 Win Against Kenyon

(ORLANDO, Fla.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team returned to the courts at the USTA Campus for a match against Kenyon College on Tuesday, March 8. The Tartans topped the Lords, 5-2, after play was called due to rain to move to 5-4 overall and 3-0 against Division III opponents.

The Tartans picked up two important doubles victories to lead 2-1. Senior Sam Gibson (Chico, Calif. / Pleasant Valley) and junior Jonathan Nottingham (Philadelphia, Pa. / Masterman High School) combined for their third straight victory, finishing first at third doubles with an 8-1 score against Matias Mauviel and Angelo Vidal. It became a 2-0 score after the sophomore pair of Michael Fourchy (Fresno, Calif. / Clovis North) and Jaden D'Abreo (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit) won 8-4 at second singles.

Sophomore Brandon Aprill (Mountain View, Calif. / The Menlo School) earned his first win of the spring trip with a 6-3, 6-3 score against Luis Andres Platas at first singles to give the Tartans a 3-1 advantage. Gibson then won at fourth singles by a 7-5, 6-0 tally before Kenyon picked up a win at third singles to make it a 4-2 score in favor of the Tartans.

Freshman William Wang (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) gave the Tartans the match win before rain settled in with a 6-2, 6-0 win at sixth singles against Jack Wagner.

The Tartans will play again on Wednesday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m. against Wesleyan University before closing the trip against University Athletic Association foe Case Western Reserve University on Thursday, March 10.
