#23 Tartans Win Close Battle, 5-4, to Washington College

(VALENCIA, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team hosted Washington College on Saturday at Lakevue Athletic Club. The Tartans defeated the Shoremen 5-4 and are now 2-2 while Washington is 0-3.

Doubles Play:

  • The Tartans took a 2-1 lead following doubles play collecting wins at the second and third spots.
  • The tandem of senior Raahil Doshi and junior Jaden D'Abreo collected the first point for the Cardinal and Gray with an 8-6 win in the third spot.
  • The Tartans second point came on another 8-6 win, this time by junior Derek Wong and freshman Akshay Joshi at second doubles.

Singles Play:

  • The first two points of singles were won by Shoremen but a straight set win at four singles by Tartan senior Matthew Poh by the scores of 6-4, 6-3 knotted the score at 3-all.
  • After the Shoremen made the score 4-3 with a win at three singles the Tartans collected the final two points of the match for the 5-4 win.
  • The first point came from D'Abreo at six singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win.
  • Joshi then clinched the match with a 6-1, 7-5 victory in the five spot.

  • The Tartans will host Washington College on Saturday, February 25.
