Men's Track Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the men's 2013 Division III All-Academic Track & Field Teams and Carnegie Mellon University was included on the list. A total of 80 institutions earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.1 or better.
Three Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field Athletes Named Academic All-District

Carnegie Mellon University had three athletes named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team for men's cross country and track and field for the 2012-13 season; senior Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson), junior Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and sophomore George Degen (Madison, Wis./West). CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.
Newby Competes in First-Ever NCAA Championships

Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field junior Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto) ran at the first day of the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Division III Track and Field Championships on Thursday, May 23. This year's championships are being hosted by University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Newby Receives Invite to NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Junior Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s track & field team received an invite to compete at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Division III Track and Field Championships held May 23-25 in La Crosse, Wisconsin hosted by University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Newby will be competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Five Personal-Best Marks Set at Allegheny's Gator Invitational

Erra-Hernandez Named UAA Most Outstanding Field Performer

Carnegie Mellon University junior Zachary Erra-Hernandez (Las Cruces, N.M./Onate) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Most Outstanding Performer in the field events, as announced Wednesday, May 1. Erra-Hernandez won two UAA titles and claimed a second-place finish while helping the Tartans finish second at the UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team finished second at its annual home quad meet on Saturday, April 6 as Penn State Behrend finished in first with 207 points to the Tartans 192. The Tartans did win seven events during the afternoon.

Junior Zachary Erra-Hernandez (Las Cruces, N.M./Onate) and sophomore Thomas Vandenberg (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s track and field team were named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week. The two helped the Tartans to a first-place team finish at their Mini-Invite on Saturday, March 30.
Tartans Run Away with Win at Home Invite

The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team won its home Mini-Invite with 234 points against Allegheny College, Denison University, SUNY Fredonia and Waynesburg University. The Tartans won six field events and three running events while sweeping the shot put, discus throw and 800-meter run.
Track and Field’s Markowitz Spends Spring Break Giving Back

When most students plan trips for spring break, they think about relaxing and enjoying the bright sun. Track and field athlete David Markowitz, did just that, but in a different way. The junior spent the week in Taos, New Mexico, as a volunteer with the Carnegie Mellon University chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
