Five Personal-Best Marks Set at Allegheny's Gator Invitational

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) – Multiple athletes from the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the 7th Annual Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny College Friday, May 10. During the meet five Tartans set personal-best marks.

In the field events, junior Nathan Cheek (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) and sophomore Gino Pilato (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) both set personal-best distances.  Pilato's came when he placed sixth in the discus with a toss of 45.86 meters while Cheek's set his career-best with a seventh-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.55 meters.

Also picking up a personal-best during the meet in the field events was freshman Brandon Hoane (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) in the long jump.  The freshman leaped 5.83 meters.

Junior Zachary Erra-Hernandez (Las Cruces, N.M./Onate) finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 16.04 meters.

Junior Mike Standish (Washington, Pa./Trinity) placed sixth in the 400-meter race with a career-best time of 50.95. The Tartans fifth personal-best time came in the trails of the 100-meter dash, as senior Joel Lu (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar) crossed in 11.58.

Sophomore Thomas Vandenberg (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) ran the 800-meter run and finished seventh with a time of 1:54.28.
