Erra-Hernandez Earns All-America Honors

(DELAWARE, Ohio) - Carnegie Mellon University senior men's track and field thrower Zachary Erra-Hernandez (Las Cruces, N.M./Onate) broke the school record in the hammer throw for the fifth time this season and earned All-America honors at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.

On Thursday afternoon, Erra-Hernandez took his first three throws during the prelims in the second flight.  He got progressively better and on his third throw tossed a new school record and career-best of 57.67 meters.  That toss put him in seventh place as he earned a spot in the finals, making him the first thrower in Carnegie Mellon history to make the finals at the NCAA Championship meet.

At the conclusion of his three throws in finals, Erra-Hernandez finished in eighth place, earning All-America honors, becoming the first Tartan thrower to become an All-American.
