Degen and Vandenberg to Compete at NCAA Indoor Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) - Seniors George Degen (Madison, Wis./West) and Thomas Vandenberg (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team will each compete at the 2015 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. The meet will be held March 13-14 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with Roanoke College serving as the official host.

Degen qualified for the meet in the 3,000-meter run and will be making his first appearance at the national championships. His time of 8:22.89 is currently 15th in the nation.

Vandenberg will be racing in two events; the 400-meter dash and the 800-meter dash. Vandenberg ran the 400 just one time this season and his time of 48.90 is fourth in the nation. He has a career-best time of 48.61. The senior will compete in the 800 event for the second time at the indoor championships, as he placed fourth in 2014 with a career-best indoor time of 1:51.77. His season-best time of 1:53.48 puts him 13th in the field.

Vandenberg will be the first to hit the track with preliminaries of the 400-meter dash expected to start at 3:05 p.m. on Friday, March 13. He will the race in the preliminaries of the 800-meter run around 4:30 p.m. Friday while Degen will hit the track on Saturday around 4:45 p.m.
