Aldrich Receives Mideast Regional Award

(NEW ORLEANS, La.) – Newly appointed head men's and women's track and field coach Gary Aldrich of Carnegie Mellon University was honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with outstanding regional recognition. Aldrich, who was named the acting head coach in November following the retirement of Dario Donatelli and then named head coach a month ago, was named Men's Mideast Head Coach of the Year.

Starting tomorrow, Friday, March 13, Aldrich will be coaching two men's runners in three different events at the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships held in Winston Salem, N.C.  Senior Thomas Vandenberg (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) will compete in two events, as he kicks off the championships running the 400-meter race before running the 800-meter.  Fellow senior George Degen (Madison, Wis./West) will compete in the 3,000-meter run after making the field with a school-record time.

This recognition adds to the already successful resume of accolades for Aldrich, as he is a five-time USTFCCCA Mideast Regional Assistant Coach of the Year winner (2008 outdoor men, 2011 outdoor women, 2012 indoor men and women and 2012 outdoor women).
