Degen Receives UAA Athlete of the Week Honor

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Senior George Degen (Madison, Wis./West) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team set a new school record in the 10,000-meter run on Saturday, April 11 at the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic and was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Track Athlete of the Week.

Degen finished seventh in the race but first amongst Division III runners in a career-best time of 30:13.03. He knocked more than 38 seconds off his previous best and topped the school record last set in 1978 by more than 16 seconds. His time is also second in the nation.

Degen and the track and field team will be back in action on Saturday, April 18 at Slippery Rock University before traveling to Atlanta, Georgia, for the UAA Championships at Emory University on Saturday, April 25 - Sunday, April 16.
