Vandenberg Named UAA Most Outstanding Outdoor Track Performer

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior Thomas Vandenberg (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Most Outstanding Performer in the running events, as announced Thursday, April 30.  Vandenberg won two UAA titles at the UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend in Atlanta, Georgia on the campus of Emory University.
    
Vandenberg won the 800-meter race at the UAA Outdoor Championships for the third straight season.  The senior crossed the finish line with a time of 1:53.64, more than a second ahead of the second-place finisher.  Vandenberg was also part of the winning 4x800-meter relay team that set the UAA and school record with a time of 7:39.98.  It was also Vandenberg's third straight UAA title in the relay, as it marked the third straight year the Tartans took first in the event.

Vandenberg currently ranks third nationally in the 800 with a time of 1:50.88.
