Tartans Compete at the Buckeye Tune-Up

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the Buckeye Tune-Up on Friday, February 19. The field was made-up of athletes from Division I, II and III.
    
Junior Owen Norley (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) ran a 4:16.86 for a fifth place finish in the mile run. Classmate Curtis Watro (Audubon, Pa. /Methacton) finished behind him in sixth place with a time of 4:22.54.

Senior Marc-Daniel Julien (Skokie, Ill./ Niles West) placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.71, as freshman Kyle Lee (Menlo Park, Calif. /Lick-Wilmerding)  ran the 400-meter dash in 52.56 to place ninth.  

Sophomore Jeff Chen (Pleasanton, Calif. /Amador Valley) earned ninth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.65, while Lee ran a 23.82 for 11th place.  Senior Josh Antonson (Naperville, Ill. / Neuqua Valley) grabbed ninth place in the 3,000-meter run, punching the clock at 8:37.03 for a new career-record.  His previous was 8:51.18 set at the Battle for the Obelisk on January 30.

In the field events, sophomore Jacob Schofel (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) earned 13th place and a career-high when he threw the shot put 12.10 meters.  Schofel also threw a career-high in the weight throw with a distance of 15.27 meters. Junior Matthew Seifu (Silver Spring, Md./Sidwell Friends) leapt 6.11 meters for an eighth place finish.

The Tartans will compete next at the UAA Championships January 27-28 at New York University.
