Three Carnegie Mellon Men’s Track and Field Athletes Receive Weekly Honors

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's indoor track and field team had three athletes receive weekly awards for their performances at the SPIRE Carnegie Mellon University Invitational on Saturday, January 21. The event was held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Junior Jacob Schofel (Livingston, N.J.) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week while sophomore Isaac Mills (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) and freshman Fred Dauphin (Brockton, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) were honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Mills was named the Corvias ECAC South Track Athlete of the Week and Dauphin was named the Rookie of the Week for the south region.   

Schofel recorded a career-best throw of 16.19 meters in the weight throw to place first at the invitational. His mark is currently tops in the UAA and 35th in the nation.

Mills led a sweep of the 800-meter run for the Tartans when he crossed the finish line in an indoor career-best time of 1:54.78. His time in the 800-meter race is currently tops in the UAA and ninth nationally. Mills was also part of the 4x400-meter relay team that placed third in 3:27.62.

Dauphin turned in two second-place finishes in the long and triple jumps. His jump of 6.40 meters in the long jump is second best in the UAA while his mark of 12.99 meters in the triple jump is fifth best in the UAA.

Carnegie Mellon will be back in action on Saturday, January 28 when they head to Cleveland, Ohio to compete against Case Western Reserve University in the Battle for the Obelisk.
