Men’s Track & Field Turns in Five Top Finishes at W&L Carnival

(LEXINGTON, Va.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the Washington and Lee Track and Field Carnival in Lexington, Virginia at Foster Stadium on Friday and Saturday, March 17-18. The Tartans turned in five first-place showings in the first meet of the spring including a sweep of the top five spots in the 800-meter race.

Senior Owen Norley (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) headlined the 800-meter sweep when he crossed with a career-best time of 1:52.94. Sophomore Isaac Mills (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) also turned in a career-best time in the 800 after crossing in 1:53.40 to place second. Freshman Evan Yukevich (Tokyo, Japan/American School in Japan) followed in third with a time of 1:54.78 while junior Evan Larrick (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) and freshman Liam Walsh (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, Larrik turned in a time of 1:56.53 and Walsh had a career-best time of 1:56.69.

Yukevich won 1,500-meter race with a time of 3:56.70. Sophomore Jared Moore (Beaver Dams, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) also ran to a first-place finish in the 5,000-meter run, as he crossed in 15:02.66 while classmate William Mitchell (Chatham, N.J.) finished second with a time of 15:15.44.

In the 10,000-meter run, senior Ryan Archer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) placed second with a career-best time of 30:51.93 while senior Brian Bollens (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) crossed third with a time 32:16.47.

Senior Curtis Watro (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:38.37 while freshman Harry Branch-Shaw (New York, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) placed second after crossing in 9:45.80. Junior Ryan Auld (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) and freshman Hunter Hartshorne (Ithaca, N.Y.) finished fourth and fifth in the event with times of 9:51.32 and 10:06.83.

Senior Don Boyer (Dover Foxcroft, Maine/Foxcroft Academy), senior Brady Wilson (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep (Wake Forest)), Mills and Norley ran the 4x400-meter relay and turned in a time of 3:24.83 to place second.

Boyer also ran to a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter and 110-meter hurdles with times of 57.46 and 15.74.

Junior Jacob Schofel (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) tossed the hammer 50.81 meters to place first while turning in a third-place finish in the discus with a mark of 42.21 meters. Sophomore Kenny Sladick (Berea, Ohio/Berea-Midpark) placed fourth in the hammer after recording a distance of 42.19 meters.

Junior Eloy Fernandez (San Jose, Calif./Lynbrook) took third in the triple jump with a career-best mark of 13.36 meters while sophomore Reed Farber (Mt. Lebanon, Pa.) cleared 1.84 meters in the high jump to finish third.

The Tartans will host the Carnegie Mellon Invite on Friday and Saturday, March 24-25.
