Three Carnegie Mellon Men’s Track and Field Athletes Receive Weekly Honors

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's outdoor track and field team had three athletes receive weekly awards for their performances at the Washington and Lee UniversityTrack & Field Carnival on Friday and Saturday, March 17-18. The event was held at Foster Stadium in Lexington, Virginia.

Senior Ryan Archer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week for running events while junior Jacob Schofel (Livingston, N.J.) was named UAA Athlete of the Week for field events. Schofel was joined by freshman Evan Yukevich (Tokyo, Japan/American School in Japan) as honorees by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Schofel was named the Corvias ECAC South Field Athlete of the Week and Yukevich was named the Rookie of the Week for the south region.   

Archer placed second in the 10,000-meter run, as he crossed the finish line in 30:51.93, which is the fifth-best time in school history. His time currently ranks third in Division III.  

Schofel turned in a first and third place finish over the weekend. He tossed the hammer 50.81 meters to place first while turning in a third-place finish in the discus with a mark of 42.21 meters. His distance in the hammer is currently tops in the UAA and sixth nationally.

Yukevich turned in a first-place finish along with a third-place showing at the carnival. The freshman won the 1,500-meter race with a time of 3:56.70 and took third in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:54.78. His time in the 1,500 is currently tops in the UAA and third in Division III.

Carnegie Mellon will be back in action on March 24-25 when they host the Carnegie Mellon Invite.
