Norley Sets School Record at Allegheny Invitational

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team took 12 athletes to the Allegheny College 12th Annual Gator Invitational on Friday, May 12. Senior Owen Norley (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) recorded a career-best time, set a stadium record and put his name in the Carnegie Mellon records book once again.

Norley's record-setting performance came in the 1,500-meter run when he crossed the finish line first in 3:48.83. His time topped Michael Short's mark of 3:49.20 set in 1982 and ranks him sixth in the nation.

Junior Jacob Schofel (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) recorded a career-best throw in the hammer throw when he place third behind two Division II athletes. His mark of 54.90 meters topped his previous best of 54.38 set at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships this year. He is currently ranked 23rd in the nation.

Sophomore Isaac Mills (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) set a career-best time in the 800-meter run when he finished first in 1:52.67. His time is also tops on the team this year and is 30th in the nation.

In his first attempt at long jump this season, freshman Jamie Greenwell (Celina, Texas/McKinney Christian Academy) placed ninth with a mark of 6.09 meters.

Freshman Jacob Halasowski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) placed third in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:54.04 while senior Don Boyer (Dover Foxcroft, Maine/Foxcroft Academy) was third in the 400-meter hurdles in 54.72. Senior Curtis Watro (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:20.13.
