Norley and Schofel Earn Placement to Compete at NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field athletes Owen Norley (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) and Jacob Schofel (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) earned entrance to compete at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. This year's meet will be hosted in Geneva, Ohio, at SPIRE Institute from Thursday, May 25 through Saturday, May 27.

Norley, a senior, will be competing at his first outdoor championships but third overall as he earned All-America status at the indoor championships in the mile run in both 2016 and 2017. In the final meet of his career, Norley will compete in the 1,500-meter run where his school record time of 3:48.83 is ninth in the nation. The preliminary heats are schedule for 2:45 p.m. on Thursday with finals set to run at 12:35 p.m. on Saturday.

Schofel, a junior, will be making his first appearance on the national stage and will compete in the hammer throw on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Schofel threw the element a career-best 56.27 meters at the Great Lakes NCAA Final Qualifying Meet on Thursday, May 18 to move up to 20th in the nation. Schofel will be the first Tartan thrower to compete at the outdoor championships since Zachary Erra-Hernandez did in 2014.
