Mansfield Breaks Own School Record as Tartans Compete at Dragon Grand Prix

(TIFFIN, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the Tiffin University Dragon Grand Prix Invitational on Saturday while senior Tommy Mansfield (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) broke the school record in the pole vault after clearing a height of 4.60 meters. Mansfield's height placed him fifth at the grand prix.

Mansfield broke his own school record of 4.58 meters that he cleared earlier this season at the SPIRE Carnegie Mellon University Invitational. Freshman Alex Liu (Amber, Pa./Upper Dublin) cleared the bar at 4.30 meters, a season-best height, to place sixth. Also in the field events, sophomore Fred Dauphin (Brockton, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) turned in two sixth-place finishes in the long and triple jumps. He recorded a mark of 6.25 meters in the long jump and 13.00 meters in the triple jump. Senior Eloy Fernandez (San Jose, Calif./Lynbrook) took fifth in the triple jump after leaping 13.12 meters.

Junior Isaac Mills (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) crossed in 1:57.82 in the 800-meter run to win the event. The freshmen duo of Matt Karee (Elmira, N.Y./Notre Dame) and Michael Cabral (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Pine Crest School) placed fourth and fifth in the mile run with both crossing in season-best times. Karee crossed in 4:26.46 and Cabral in 4:27.19.

In the 3,000-meter run, freshman Andrew Singh (Marietta, Ga./Walton) crossed in 9:07.38 to place seventh.

The Tartans will compete again on Friday, February 16 at the Ohio State University Indoor Tune-Up Meet.
