Men’s Track Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Awards

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2019 Division III All-Academic Track & Field Teams and Carnegie Mellon University was included on the list for the 23rd consecutive year. A total of 113 men's teams and 184 women's teams earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better for the 2018-19 academic year.

Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Matt Karee (Elmira, N.Y./Notre Dame) was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Division III Track & Field/Cross Country Team. The honor is the first for Karee, who is in his first year of eligibility, and the first since 2015 for the men's track and field and cross country programs.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s and women’s track and field teams had 17 Mideast All-Region honors awarded to its athletes by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2019 outdoor track and field season. Thirteen represent the men while four represent the women with two men receiving multiple honors.

Three Carnegie Mellon University men’s track and field and cross country athletes have been honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as Google Cloud Men’s Cross Country/Track and Field Academic All-District selections. Junior Josh Kalapos (Mt. Lebanon, Pa./Mt.Lebanon) and sophomore Matt Karee (Elmira, N.Y./Notre Dame) participate on both teams while sophomore Bram Miller (Colgate, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) competes on the track and field team following the fall playing football.

Senior Will Mitchell (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The three-day event was hosted at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, with the University of Mount Union and Greater Cleveland Sports Commission co-hosting.

Carnegie Mellon University senior track and field athlete Isaac Mills (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for excelling academically and athletically while showing leadership and commitment to the community. Twenty-one males and 21 females across all three NCAA divisions were chosen as recipients for the winter sports.

Carnegie Mellon University sophomores Bram Miller (Colgate, Wis. / Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and Marvin Bennett Jr. (Baltimore, Md. / Phillips Exeter Academy) were honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) when the 2019 Outdoor Track and Field awards were announced Wednesday. Miller was named Most Outstanding Performer in the field events, while Bennett Jr. was Most Outstanding Performer in the running events. Both played a major contribution in helping lead the Tartans to a second-place finish at the UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team finished second at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships which concluded Sunday after two days of action at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The men had three individual wins and a win in the 4x100-meter relay.

After seven scored events, the Tartans are second with 75 points, just ten points behind first place Washington University.

Gary Aldrich, head coach of the Carnegie Mellon University track and field teams, has been named to the U.S.A. coaching staff as the Throws Coach for the 2019 NACAC (North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletic Association) Under 23 Championships this summer. The event will take place in Queretaro, Mexico, from July 5-7. This marks Aldrich's sixth coaching stint on the international stage.
