Men’s Track and Field Compete at Ohio State and Mount Union

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)- The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the Ohio State University Indoor Collegiate Meet on Friday, while a second squad of Tartans competed at the Mount Union Raider Tune-Up on Saturday. Many Tartans scored personal-best and season-best performances at both meets.

At the Ohio State University Indoor Collegiate Meet, sophomore Bram Miller (Colgate Wis. / Kettle Moraine Lutheran) threw his second-best distance of the season in the shot put with 16.00 meters. Bram had the opportunity to compete with Joe Kovacs, the former shot put world champion, at Friday's meet.

In the triple jump, freshman Justin Kiefel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downington STEM Academy) and junior Fred Dauphin (Brockton, Mass. / Cardinal Spellman) both recorded personal bests. Kiefel had a jump of 14.37 meters and Dauphin jumped 14.07 meters. Freshman Varun Narayan (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 6.86 meters.

Senior Isaac Mills (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) had a season-best performance in the 800-meter run finishing in 1:55. In the men's mile, junior Liam Walsh (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) finished in a time of 4:20.

On Saturday at the Mount Union Raider Tune-Up, sophomore Logan Stahl (Oil City, Pa. / Oil City) placed seventh with a distance of 14.62 meters in the weight throw. Sophomore Dylan Lew (Newtown, Conn. / Newtown) placed sixth in the pole vault clearing 3.61 meters.

Placing second and third in the high jump, senior Reed Farber (Mt. Lebanon, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) and sophomore Matt Sloan (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley) both cleared heights of 1.87 meters. Sloan placed third in the triple jump with a personal-best performance of 13.16 meters while Farber had an indoor personal record of 13.13 meters. Narayan had his second long jump appearance of the weekend winning the meet with a distance of 6.64 meters.

Also marking his second appearance of the weekend, Miller won the shot put throwing 15.95 meters. Sophomore Marvin Bennett Jr. (Baltimore, Md. / Phillips Exeter Academy) placed first in the 60 meter dash in a career-best time of 6.96. Bennett Jr. scored yet another win in the 200 meter dash in 22.78.

In the men's mile, senior Andrew Harter (Saratoga, Calif. / Saratoga) placed first in a time of 4:25, while freshman Naren Karur (Santa Clara, Calif. / Saint Francis) ran to a fourth place finish in 4:32. Freshmen Graham Eversden (Chandler, Ariz. / Chandler) and Christian French (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit) placed first and third respectively in the 800-meter run in times of 1:58 and 2:01.

To close out the weekend, the Tartan 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Grant Johnson (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier), Eversden, freshman Heoseph Desir (Montville, N.J. / Montville Township), and sophomore Michael Cai (Dumont, N.J. / Bergen County Academies) placed first in 3:31.

The Tartans will travel to the UAA Championships hosted by Brandeis University in Boston, Mass. next Saturday February 23.
