Mitchell and Yukevich Advance to Finals at NCAA Indoor Championships

(BOSTON, Mass.) - Senior Will Mitchell (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) and junior Evan Yukevich (Tokyo, Japan / American School in Japan) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team advanced to the finals at the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday in the 3,000 meters and mile, respectively. The two-day event is being held at the Reggie Lewis Center with the University of Massachusetts Boston and the City of Boston serving as hosts.

Mitchell and Yukevich both ran personal-best times in the preliminaries while each running the fifth fastest time in their respective event on Friday afternoon. Mitchell crossed with a time of 8:23.22 in the 3,000 meters, it marked the second-best time in program history. The mile run saw Yukevich cross in 4:10.59 which is also the second fastest time in program history.

Senior Isaac Mills (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton), junior Josh Kalapos (Mt. Lebanon, Pa. / Mt.Lebanon) and sophomore Marvin Bennett Jr. (Baltimore, Md. / Phillips Exeter Academy) also competed at the championships on Friday. Mills and Bennett Jr. ran in the preliminaries of the 800 and 200 meters with Kalapos running in the finals of the 5,000 meters. Mills ran a time of 1:55.52 while Bennett Jr. crossed the line in 22.33, both placed 19th in the preliminary event. Kalapos finished the race in 19th-place with a time of 15:30.27.

The championships continue on Saturday with freshman Justin Kiefel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown STEM Academy) competing in the triple jump at 2:00 p.m. Yukevich will run at 3:15 p.m. with Mitchell's race to be ran at 4:55 p.m.
