Tartans Compete at Dave Labor Invitational

(SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed in the Dave Labor Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock University on Saturday. The Tartans had many personal-best performances against the DII and DIII competition.

Sophomore Bram Miller (Colgate, Wis. / Kettle Moraine Lutheran) had another day of outstanding performances. In the hammer throw, Miller took fourth with a toss of 46.26 meters, while fellow sophomore Logan Stahl (Oil City, Pa. / Oil City) took seventh with 43.61 meters. Miller then placed third in the shot put with 15.52 meters, and fourth in the discus with a toss of 48.25 meters. Senior Marshall Hoebing (Mickleton, N.J. / Kingsway Regional) placed eleventh in the javelin with a throw of 51.03.

In the 400-meter, senior Isaac Mills (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) placed second in a season-best time of 50.49, and sophomore Michael Cai (Dumont, N.J. / Bergen County Academies) took seventh in 51.70. Juniors Evan Yukevich (Tokyo, Japan / American School in Japan) and Liam Walsh (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) placed first and second in the 1,500-meter in times of 3:58 and 3:59 respectively, a personal record for Walsh.

Freshman Tarik Taoufik (Butler, Pa. / Butler) placed second in the triple jump covering 6.57 meters, and junior Dhroovaa Khannan (San Ramon, Calif. / Dougherty Valley) placed seventh with 6.28 meters. Senior Reed Farber (Mt. Lebanon, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) took third in a four-way tie in the high jump, clearing 1.92 meters. Farber also placed ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.79 meters. In the pole vault, freshman Brian Lane (Frederick, Md. / Oakdale) placed seventh clearing 3.85 meters.

Freshman Michael OBroin (Park Ridge, Ill. / Saint Ignatius College Prep) took second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:47. In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Tyler Waters (Louisville, Colo. / Monarch) placed third in 57.90, while sophomore Grant Johnson (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) placed seventh in 58.54.

The Tartans' 4x400-meter team of Heoseph Desir (Montville, N.J. / Montville Township), Johnson, Graham Eversden (Chandler, Ariz. / Chandler), and Mills placed second with a time of 3:23.

The Tartans will compete next at both the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa. on April 13-14 and the Westminster Invitational in New Wilmington, Pa. on April 13.
