Tartans Win Four Events at SRU Bill Lennox Invitational

(SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the Slippery Rock University Bill Lennox Invitational on Friday, April 16. The Tartans placed first in three individual events and one relay.

Freshman Andrew McGovern (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) won the 800-meter run in 1:58.16 with sophomore CJ Hess (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Upper St. Clair) finishing fourth in 2:01.33.

The 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Pranav Rajbhandari (Marietta, Ga. / Walton), Cai, senior Grant Johnson (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier), and McGovern out-paced the field to win in 3:25.64, nearly eight seconds faster than the second-place team from California University of Pennsylvania.

Senior Matt Sloan (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley) tied for first in the high jump by clearing the bar at 1.91 meters and then placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 13.44 meters.

Freshman Alex Petric (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) cleared the bar at a career-best height of 4.21 meters in the pole vault to tie for fifth place.

Junior Thomas Chen (Taipei, Taiwan / Taipei American School ) led the Tartans in the long jump with a leap of 6.22 meters to place ninth. The junior finished the triple jump in eighth place with a mark of 12.57 meters.

In the throwing events, senior Bram Miller (Colgate, Wis. / Kettle Moraine Lutheran) won the discus throw with a mark of 45.69 meters, sophomore Bailey O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) finished second in the shot put with a toss of 13.95 meters, senior Logan Stahl (Oil City, Pa. / Oil City) placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.83 meters, and senior Marc Edwards (North Versailles, Pa. / East Allegheny) finished seventh in the javelin throw with a distance of 44.43 meters.

Other top performances included:

Freshman David Shao (San Jose, Calif. / Valley Christian) was 11th in the 100-meter dash in 11.28.

Sophomore Alex Halkias (Berlin, Conn. / Berlin) was 9th in the 200-meter dash in 22.77.

Senior Michael Cai (Dumont, N.J. / Bergen County Academies) was ninth in the 400-meter dash in 51.83.

Arnav Arora (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) placed seventh in the 1,500-meter run in 4:20.17.

Freshman Eric Rohrer (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Taylor Allderdice) placed 11th in the 5,000-meter run in 16:28.20.

The Tartans will continue competition on Saturday, April 17 at Robert Morris University.
