Tartans Win Seven Events at Penn State-Behrend Invitational

(ERIE, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team headed north to Erie, Pennsylvania on Sunday to take part in the Penn State-Behrend Invitational.

The Tartans 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Brian Hu (Vienna, Va. / Thomas Jefferson), sophomore Alex Halkias (Berlin, Conn. / Berlin), freshman David Shao (San Jose, Calif. / Valley Christian) and senior Marvin Bennett Jr. (Baltimore, Md. / Phillips Exeter Academy) placed first with a season-best time of 42.53.

Bennett then went on to win the 100-meter dash in a season-best time of 10.78 with Halkias placing third in 11.13. Halkia also took third in the 200-meter dash in 22.58.

Freshman Pranav Rajbhandari (Marietta, Ga. / Walton) and senior Michael Cai (Dumont, N.J. / Bergen County Academies) finished first and second in the 400-meter race. Rajbhandari crossed in 51.28 with Cai coming in at 51.86. The 400-meter hurdles saw freshman Thomas Rich (Rochester, N.Y. / Brighton) finish third in a season-best time of 58.32.

Senior Matt Sloan (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley) won the triple jump with a career-best mark of 13.60 meters. The senior also cleared the bar in the high jump at 1.80 meters to take fourth on a judges decision.

Senior Bram Miller (Colgate, Wis. / Kettle Moraine Lutheran) threw the discus 49.00 meters, a season-best, to win the event. The senior also won the shot put with a throw of 16.75 meters. Classmate Logan Stahl (Oil City, Pa. / Oil City) placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.96 meters.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Rajbhandari, Cai, freshman Chetan Chilkunda (Hillsboro, Ore. / Jesuit) and Rich won the event in 3:29.11.

The Tartans will be next host the Carnegie Mellon Field Event Classic on Friday, April 30 before competing at the WVU Mountaineer Twilight Invitational on Saturday, May 1.
