Tartan Men Finish Second at All-Atlantic Region Championships

(PITTSFORD, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team took 14 members to the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by St. John Fisher in Pittsford, N.Y., for a two-day competition. Those 14 athletes helped the team finish second overall and just four points behind the winner, SUNY Brockport. Senior Bram Miller (Colgate, Wis. / Kettle Moraine Lutheran) recorded a meet record while smashing his own school record, as junior Justin Kiefel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown STEM Academy) topped his career-bests and school records in two jumping events. Freshman Andrew McGovern (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) also set a new school record in the 400-meter hurdles.

Miller was victorious in the shot put with a meet record throw of 18.01 meters, topping the record of 17.64 meters set in 1983, and his own school record of 17.84 meters set two weeks ago. Miller's latest mark ranks him second in the nation.

Kiefel continued his stellar season by taking first in the long jump with a mark of 7.54 meters and second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.93 meters. Both distances top his records set two weeks ago at the West Virginia University Last Chance Meet. The long jump mark is first in the nation while his triple jump mark is fifth.

McGovern was victorious in the 400-meter hurdles in a career-best time of 52.49 which tops the previous school record of 53.41 set in 1988 by Damien McKnight. This latest time puts him third in the nation.

Other outstanding performances include four career-best showings with four first-place finishes.

Junior Graham Eversden (Chandler, Ariz. / Chandler) took first in the 800-meter run in a career-best time of 1:52.35.

Graduate student Hunter Hartshorne (Ithaca, N.Y. / Ithaca) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a career-best time of 9:12.98 and is now ranked 10th nationally in the event.

Freshman Pranav Rajbhandari (Marietta, Ga. / Walton) finished fourth in the 400-meter dash in a career-best time of 50.21.

Freshman David Shao (San Jose, Calif. / Valley Christian) placed fifth in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.99.

Graduate student Liam Walsh (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) was 10th in the 1,500-meter run in 4:04.74 with senior Harry Branch-Shaw (New York, N.Y. / Brooklyn Technical) placing 12th in 4:08.48.

Senior Matt Sloan (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley) tied for sixth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.91 meters, and finished 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 13.58 meters.

Sophomore Bailey O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 14.11 meters.

Miller also won the discus throw with a mark of 50.04 meters with O'Malley placing 14th with a mark of 39.09 meters. Sophomore Len Huang (Holmdel, N.J. / Holmdel) placed 16th in the discus throw with a mark of 37.03 meters.

Senior Logan Stahl (Oil City, Pa. / Oil City) led the Tartans in the hammer throw with a heave of 47.76 meters to place ninth with O'Malley just after him in 10th place with a distance of 46.73 meters.
