Branch-Shaw and Hartshorne Run in 3,000-meter Steeplechase at NCAA Championships

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) – Senior Harry Branch-Shaw (New York, N.Y. / Brooklyn Technical) and graduate student Hunter Hartshorne (Ithaca, N.Y. / Ithaca) of the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday at the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The three-day championships are being held at the Irwin Belk Track Complex in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Branch-Shaw placed 15th as Hartshorne ended in 16th. Branch-Shaw finished with a time of 9:42.63 with Hartshorne crossing in 9:58.75.

It marked the second time in program history that two Tartans competed in the same event at the outdoor championships. In 2007, Brian Harvey and Davey Quinn competed in the 1,500-meter run with Quinn placing second and Harvey ninth.

On Saturday, junior Justin Kiefel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown STEM Academy) will start competition for the Tartans at 10:30 a.m. in the triple jump. Senior Bram Miller (Colgate, Wis. / Kettle Moraine Lutheran) then will compete in the shot put at 2:00 p.m. with freshman Andrew McGovern (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) running in the finals on the 400-meter hurdles at 2:25 p.m.
