Tartans Prepare for UAAs Partaking at Penn State and Mount Union Tune-Up Meets

(ALLIANCE, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the Penn State University Tune-Up meet on Friday and the University of Mount Union Tune-Up meet on Saturday.

Performances at PSU:

  • In the mile run, sophomore Aleksei Seletskiy crossed with a career-best time of 4:09.37 to win the event. His time was .24 seconds off the school record time that Owen Norley set in 2017.
  • Junior Jacob Hsu also competed in the mile and finished fifth with a personal-best time of 4:17.78.
  • Sophomore Cody Breidenbach placed fourth in the weight throw with a season-best throw of 18.73 meters.
  • Senior Alex Halkias took second in the long jump with a mark of 6.59 meters.
  • A season-best jump of 13.43 meters by sophomore Luke Blackwell in the triple jump placed him fifth.

Top Performances at Mount Union:

  • Sophomore Seth Williams, freshman Kenji Tella and sophomore Yonah Goldberg placed third, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 3,000-meter race with personal-best times. Williams crossed in 8:58.95, Tella in 9:03.71 and Goldberg in 9:06.99.
  • Freshman Thomas Damiani crossed in a season-best time of 4:28.12 to place third in the mile run.
  • The Tartans turned in a third and ninth finish in the 800-meter run when sophomore Sean Dutton posted a time of 1:59.78 and freshman Saaketh Nandakumar a season-best time of 2:03.94.
  • The 60-meter dash saw sophomore Jacob Kelly place sixth with a season-best time of 7.04.
  • Kelly later turned in the third place showing in the 200-meter dash crossing in a season-best time of 23.05. Placing ninth and tenth in the 200-meter dash for the Tartans were senior Verne Garin and sophomore Alexander Palmer with time of 23.91 and 23.93, respectively.
  • A seventh-place finish came from Palmer in the 400-meter run when he crossed in 53.47.
  • Sophomore Micah Nowlin crossed in a personal-best time of 8.78 to finish fifth in the 60-meter hurdles.
  • Freshman Christian Duckworth placed sixth in the pole vault after clearing the bar at a season-best height of 4.47 meters.
