Gates Named First Team Capital One Academic All-America

Carnegie Mellon University senior Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) received another academic award as he was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division III Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Carnegie Mellon University had three athletes named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team for men's cross country and track and field for the 2012-13 season; senior Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson), junior Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and sophomore George Degen (Madison, Wis./West). CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.
Gates Receives NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Carnegie Mellon University senior cross country standout Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) has been awarded the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. The scholarship is worth $7,500 for part-time or full-time postgraduate study at a university or professional school.
Four Cross Country Runners Earn All-Academic Honor from USTFCCCA

The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team had four runners selected to the All-Academic team by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). This marks the fourth consecutive season that the Tartans had at least two members garner the honor while the team earned honors once again.
Success Surrounds Evan Gates from the Classroom to the Trails

High standards are nothing new for senior runner Evan Gates, who earned All-America status as a junior and led a young cross country team back to the national stage as a senior this past fall. The accomplished runner also boasts perfection in the classroom, carrying a 4.0 GPA in biomedical engineering, and has his sights set on the highest level of academia with aspirations of passing his knowledge on through coaching.

Tartan Runners Take 17th at NCAA Championships

A strong team effort led the Carnegie Mellon University men’s cross country team to a 17th-place finish at the Division III Championships on Saturday, November 17 in Terre Haute, Ind. The Tartans, who qualified for the national meet for the seventh time in eight years,had their first four runners finish within 53 seconds of one another. North Central won its 15th national championship and second in a row.

The Carnegie Mellon University men’s cross country team finished the 2012 Mideast Regional in second place behind Haverford College at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa. hosted by Dickinson College. With the second-place team finish, Carnegie Mellon automatically advances to the Division III NCAA Championships next weekend.

The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team finished third at the University Athletic Association Championships hosted by the University of Rochester on Saturday, October 27. The Tartans finished with 65 points with three earning All-Association honors after finishing the 8k race.
UAA Announces 25th Anniversary Men’s Cross Country Team

In honor of its silver anniversary, the University Athletic Association has announced its 25th Anniversary Men’s Cross Country Team. Thirty-seven student-athletes earned the honor, including four from Carnegie Mellon University.
Tartans Finish Fourth at Inter-Regional Rumble

The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team competed at the Inter-Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin College Saturday, October 13. In the field of 275 runners and 32 teams, the Tartans placed fourth overall while junior Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) was once again the top Cardinal and Gray runner.

This time, Newby earns the honor for his efforts at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational Saturday, October 6.

A strong team performance in which five runners finished in the top 10 led the Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team to the title of the Lock Haven University River Run Invite on Saturday, September 22. The victory marks the first for the team this season as they were second a week ago at Slippery Rock University.
