Tartans Win Mack Cooper Invitational

(SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.) – For the second straight season, senior Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto)  was the top Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country performer at the Mack Cooper Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock University at Cooper's Lake Campground. Newby's second-place individual showing led the Tartans to a first-place team finish.

Also, for the second straight year at the event, the team had three runners finish in the top 10 of the race. Newby was the first collegiate runner to cross with a time of 26:22.40, as Eric Geddis won the race as he entered unattached.

Fellow Tartan senior Ken Murphy (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) finished third with a time of 26:36.14 followed by junior Josh Antonson (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) in sixth place with a time of 26:46.43

Finishing fourth for the Tartans was junior Eamon Cullinane (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) in 12th place in 26:56.23 as freshman Ryan Archer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) was 14th in 26:59.94.

Rounding out the Tartans' sixth and seventh-place runners were sophomore Marc-Daniel Julien (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) in 19th place and freshman Curtis Watrp (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) in 21st place. Julien finished in 27:21.78 as Watro crossed in 27:31.29.

The Tartans will next run at Lock Haven University in Lock Haven, Pa., on Saturday, September 21 at 10:00 a.m.
