Tartans Race to Fourth Place at UAA Championships

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team raced to a fourth-place finish at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on its home course in Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Saturday, November 2. Washington University won the meet for the fourth straight year.

Senior Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) led the Tartan charge with an All-UAA Second Team finish, crossing the line in 10th place in a time of 25:44.3. Junior George Degen (Madison, Wis./West) was 13 seconds behind him in 15th place while senior Ken Murphy (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was third for the Tartans and 27th overall in 26:34.2.

Finishing fourth for the Tartans was senior Brendan O'Hara (Chicago, Ill./Latin School of Chicago) in 35th place in 26:44.9, as sophomore Marc-Daniel Julien (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) was 36th overall in 26:47.1.

Sophomore Brian Bollens (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) was right behind Julien in 37th place in 26:48.2 while junior Eamon Cullinane (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) was 40th overall in a time of 26:53.1.

The Tartans will next compete at the Mideast Regional on Saturday, November 16 at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. The race is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
