Degen is UAA Champion! Tartans Finish Second

(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) - Senior George Degen (Madison, Wis./West) ran his best race when it mattered most as he won the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday, November 1 at Forest Park in St. Louis, Missouri. Degen led Carnegie Mellon University to a second-place team finish behind host Washington University.

Degen finished the 8k course with a time of 25:05.85, two seconds ahead of the University of Chicago's Michael Frasco to become the Tartans first individual champion since Jim Langer in 1993.

Junior Marc-Daniel Julien (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) and senior Joshua Antonson (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) earned All-UAA Second Team by finishing 10th and 11th during the race. Their times were 25:40.61 and 25:41.24, respectively.

Junior Brian Bollens (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) finished the course 15th overall in a time of 25:47.34 while freshman Ryan Auld (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) was the fifth Tartan to finish. Auld crossed the line in 25:59.12 to take 23rd place.

Sophomore Ryan Archer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) and junior Eamon Cullinane (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) also helped the team by placing 29th and 31st overall. Archer finished the race in 26:06.55 with Cullinane crossed the line in 26:13.68.

The Tartans will next compete at the NCAA Regionals on Saturday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m. The race will be hosted by Dickinson College at Big Spring HS in Newville, Pennsylvania.
