Cross Country Teams Band Together

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – On an off weekend from racing, the Carnegie Mellon University men's and women's cross country teams banded together off campus at Garfield Community Farm.

Each year, head coach Dario Donatelli lays out a few volunteer activities for the team to choose from and Garfield Community Farm was the choice for the 2014 teams. The farm needed assistance preparing for winter crops and getting the area ready to host groups for teaching and social events. The cross country teams helped by building steps and arranging walkways through the grounds.

"We all thought that a community farm sounded like a great place to help out," said senior captain George Degen. "It was fun to get to know the freshmen while also helping the community and learn a bit about farming in the process. We also enjoyed combining the service project with our daily run, as we ran to and from the farm."
