Tartans Win Home Invitational for Fifth Straight Year

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team was victorious for the fifth straight year at its home invitational. The 8k race was held in Schenley Park on Saturday, October 8.

An unattached runner won the race before five Tartans crossed the finish line in order. Leading the Tartans was freshman Josh Kalapos (Pittsburgh, Pa.) in 26:48.7 who passed junior Jordan Safer (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) at the end who finished two tenths of a second behind him in 26:48.9.

Freshman Evan Yukevich (Tokyo, Japan/American School in Japan) was next to finish the 8k race, as he did in 26:52.4. Behind him was freshman Stephen Law (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga) in 26:9.6.

Sophomore Kevin Cory (Frederick, Md./Urbana) closed out the race in 27:03.0 to finish sixth overall before freshman Liam Walsh (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) was eighth overall in 27:19.6. The seventh Tartan to finish the race was senior Steven Kool (Vienna, Va./Thomas Jefferson HS for Science and Technology) who was 10th overall in 27:25.5.

The Tartans will next race at the Inter-Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday, October 15.
