Singh Leads Men’s Cross Country at Duquesne Duals

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon men's cross country team started off the 2018 season at the Duquesne Duals held in Shenley Park Saturday morning. The men finished second in a field of Division I runners and the Tartans defeating both the University of Pittsburgh and Youngstown State.

The Tartans finished with five runners placing in the top 15 of the men's race. Sophomore Andrew Singh (Marietta, Ga. / Walton) led the Tartans in a time of 25:57 finishing third overall.

The team's top-performers worked together closely throughout the race to cover the 8k course. Junior Josh Kalapos (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) finished second for the Tartans in a time of 26:03 placing fifth overall. "Jacob was right ahead of me before we reached the oval," said Kalapos, "this really pushed me to compete towards the end of the race."

Senior Jacob Halasowski (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Fox Chapel Area), who followed Kalapos finished in a time of 26:16. "It was important to stay composed in the first half of the race which was all downhill and from there I set myself up well," added Halasowski.

Freshman Michael OBroin (Park Ridge, Ill. / Saint Ignatius College Prep) made his collegiate debut in the season opener finishing fourth for the Tartans and 10th overall in a time of 26:19. Sophomore Arty Dzieniszewski (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge) finished fifth for the Tartans and 14th overall in a time of 26:35.

Junior Hunter Hartshorne (Ithaca, N.Y. / Ithaca) was sixth for the Tartans and 16th overall in a time of 26:43. "It's nice to get back on the line," said Hartshorne, who has been making his way back from injury, "based on the training that I have I'm pretty happy with how I've done." Senior William Mitchell (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) finished seventh for the Tartans and 17th overall in a time of 26:47.

The Tartans will compete on September 15th at the Allegheny Invitational which will be held in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
