Tartans Place Second at UAA Championships

(KENOSHA, Wisconsin) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team was this year's runner up at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships hosted by the University of Chicago at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Tartans were second to Washington University in St. Louis by just six points.

Sophomore Andrew Singh (Marietta, Ga. / Walton) led the Tartans as the first runner following a trio of Washington men. "Our team effort was great today," said Singh, "I'm pumped going into regionals. Given how close we came to Wash U, it was anybody's day. I'm excited to go up against some tough competition in two weeks." Singh finished fourth overall in a time of 25:50.

Senior Aadi Mhatre (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) worked with Singh finishing just three seconds behind the sophomore in 25:53 placing fifth overall. Junior Josh Kalapos (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) was third for the Tartans and eighth overall finishing in a time of 26:03.

A pack of Tartans finished just three seconds behind Kalapos. Sophomore Naveen Pai (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto), freshman Michael OBroin (Park Ridge, Ill. / Saint Ignatius College Prep) and sophomore Matt Karee (Elmira, N.Y. / Notre Dame) all finished within the same second in 26:06.6, 26:06.8 and 26:06.8, respectively in ninth, 11th and 12th overall.

Rounding out the Tartan's top seven, senior William Mitchell (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) placed 19th overall in a time of 26:22.

Singh and Mhatre both earned All-UAA First Team honors for their finishes while Kalapos, Pai, OBroin and Karee earned All-UAA Second Team status.

The Tartans will compete next at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships hosted by DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania, on November 10th.
