Men Top Division III Field in Paul Short Invitational Gold Race

(BETHLEHEM, Pa.) - Competing for their second year in the gold race at the Lehigh University Paul Short Invitational, the Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team placed 23rd in a field of 44 teams on Saturday, October 5th. The Tartans were the first Division III team to finish in a field of Division I and Division III runners.

The Tartans covered the 8k course with five runners under 25 minutes.  Sophomore Michael OBroin (Park Ridge, Ill. / Saint Ignatius College Prep) finished first for the Cardinal and Gray in 91st place in a time of 24:31. Senior Liam Walsh (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) was second for the Tartans, finishing 121st overall in a time of 24:40. 

Junior Matt Karee (Elmira, N.Y. / Notre Dame) was third for the Tartans and 128th overall crossing the finish in a time of 24:46. "I'm really happy with how we raced today, we've never had so many guys under 25 minutes and I'm looking forward to championship season." said Karee.

Senior Evan Yukevich (Tokyo, Japan / American School in Japan) finished fourth for the Tartans and 147th overall in a time of 24:51. Senior Edward Goebel (Abington, Pa. / La Salle College) was fifth for the Tartans placing 163rd in a time of 24:57. 

Senior Josh Kalapos (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) was sixth for the Cardinal and Gray in 206th in a time of 25:09. Finishing seventh for the Tartans, freshman Justin Hsu (San Carlos, Ca. / Carlmont High) placed 220th in a time of 25:15. 

The Tartans will compete again on their home course at the Carnegie Mellon Hampton Inn Pittsburgh – University/Medical Center Invitational in Schenley Park on Saturday, October 12th.
