Tartans Win Rowan Border Battle

(GLASSBORO, N.J.) – The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team ran to a first-place finish at the Rowan University Inter-Regional Invitational this Saturday in Glassboro, New Jersey. 

Junior Matt Karee (Elmira, N.Y. / Notre Dame) was first for the team placing fifth overall in 24:27. Senior Josh Kalapos (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) finished just two seconds behind Karee in 24:29 placing seventh overall. 

Senior Evan Yukevich (Tokyo, Japan / American School in Japan) was third for the Tartans running to a 10th-place finish overall in 24:31. Finishing fourth for the Cardinal and Gray, sophomore Michael OBroin (Park Ridge, Ill. / Saint Ignatius College Prep) was 12th overall in a time of 24:33. 

Seniors Edward Goebel (Abington, Pa. / La Salle College) and Hunter Hartshorne (Ithaca, N.Y. / Ithaca) were fifth and sixth for the Tartans, finishing 17th in 24:48 and 22nd in 25:01. 

Freshman Justin Hsu (San Carlos, Ca. / Carlmont High) rounded out the Tartans' top seven finishing in 28th place just three seconds behind Hartshorne in 25:04. 

The Tartans will next compete at the University Athletic Association Championships at home in Schenley Park, Pittsburgh, Pa., on Saturday, November, 2.
