Tartans Place Second at Yinzer Invitational

(CLINTON, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team started its 2021 season at the Yinzer Invitational held at Youthtowne in Clinton, Pennsylvania, on Friday evening. The field was comprised of runners from Division I, II and III with Duquesne, Pittsburgh, Robert Morris, Saint Francis (Pa.), Youngstown State and Seton Hill all competing with the Tartans. The men placed second with 34 points with Pittsburgh winning the event with 25.

Senior Michael OBroin (Park Ridge, Ill. / Saint Ignatius College Prep) led the Tartans with a second-place individual showing crossing in 18:56.4. Graduate student Matt Karee (Elmira, N.Y. / Notre Dame) placed sixth with a time of 19:00.5.

Freshmen Colin McLaughlin (Stamford, Conn. / Westhill) and Matthew Coyle (Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South) finished in seventh and eighth, respectively, with times of 19:33.7 and 19:34.5. Junior Elijah Sech (San Clemente, Calif. / San Clemente) rounded out the Tartans top five with a time of 19:44.5 to place 13th.

Carnegie Mellon will run again at the Robert Morris Invitational on Friday, September 17. The race will be held again at Youthtowne.
