Checking in With Coach Harrison and CMU Softball
What has Coach Harrison been up to as she's worked toward building the first-ever softball team in Carnegie Mellon history? Read below to find out!
"As I have hit my seven-month anniversary with Carnegie Mellon, I have had a little time to reflect on my time starting up this new program," said Harrison. "The University has been unwavering in their support and commitment to the new softball program – it has been a joy to work hard to get this program up and running."
A few highlights for Coach Harrison have been:
- The opportunity to represent the University and the softball program in throwing out the first pitch at a Pirates game this fall. "Being a Pittsburgh native, it was such a cool honor to throw out the first pitch and expose the community to the new softball program."
- Professional development opportunities at the NFCA Coaches Convention and the Pennsylvania Coaches Convention learning from the best in the business. "Having the opportunity to learn from national championship winning coaches as they spoke about position specific drills and training techniques broadened my knowledge of the game and I can't wait to incorporate them into our training sessions."
Of course, Coach Harrison has spent the majority of her time recruiting the first-ever class of softball players for the university.
"I've spent a lot of time hitting the road recruiting and creating lots of buzz around the start of the new program," said Harrison. "I am happy to say that we currently have 12 players on the roster through Early Decision admissions - nine incoming freshmen and three current campus players. I am very optimistic on the talent coming in for the first year of this program and the pipeline of talent for the coming years. Carnegie Mellon University is a great institution for student-athletes to continue their career and that has come through vividly from current student-athletes and the amount of interest that has been shown from prospective student-athletes."
