Tartans Drop a Pair on Third Day of Spring Trip

(KISSIMMEE, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University softball team dropped a pair of games on Tuesday, March 12 in Kissimmee, Florida. The first game favored Marietta College, 6-0, before Meredith College was able to finish off a 3-1 win against the Tartans who are now 1-5 for the year.

Game 1: Marietta 6, Carnegie Mellon 0

The Pioneers (5-1) had five hits against freshman Amanda Schwartz (Fairfield, N.J. / West Essex Regional) scoring one run in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth. The Tartans also had five hits with senior Renee Madrigal (Norwalk, Calif. / St. Paul) smacking a double to right center.

Game 2: Meredith 3, Carnegie Mellon 1

Freshman Scotty McGee (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Huntington Beach) struck out seven batters but also surrendered seven hits for three runs by the Avenging Angels who moved to 2-8 with the win. The offense struggled to get going in game two as freshman Audra Scheinman (Falls Church, Va. / George C. Marshall) and McGee picked up the only two hits, both singles up the middle, for the Tartans.

Freshman Summer Faille (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Westlake) scored the only run for the Tartans when she slid into home plate after an errant throw by Meredith's first baseman.

The Tartans are off Wednesday before resuming action with a double header against SUNY Potsdam beginning at 3:45 p.m.
