Fourteen Earn NFCA All-America Scholar Honors
August 18, 2021
Fourteen Carnegie Mellon University softball athletes were honored for their 2020-21 academic success by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). All fourteen were named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes for finishing the year with a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) or better.
Johnson, Hu, and McGee Receive Regional Recognition

After earning the program’s first regional ranking in school history this year, three Carnegie Mellon University softball players received National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Awards for the Central Region. Sophomore Piper Johnson (Riverside, Calif. / Martin Luther King) was honored on the second team as a designated player while juniors Megan Hu (Katy, Texas / Seven Lakes) and Scotty McGee (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Huntington Beach) were honored on the third team at shortstop and pitcher, respectively.
Five Honored with All-UAA Softball Recognition

Five Carnegie Mellon University softball players were honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) coaches with recognition on the 2021 UAA Softball All-Association Team. Juniors Megan Hu (Katy, Texas / Seven Lakes) and Scotty McGee (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Huntington Beach) were honored for the third season while sophomores Tessa Bruneau (Edgewater Park, N.J. / Holy Cross Prep) and Emily Finger (Aurora, Ill. / Metea Valley) are repeat honorees. Sophomore Piper Johnson (Riverside, Calif. / Martin Luther King) was honored for the first time.
Tartans Split Series with Hiram

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team traveled to Hiram College for a doubleheader on Wednesday with the Tartans the home team in both contests. The Tartans dropped a nine inning contest in game one by a 5-4 score before topping the Terriers 7-6 in six innings due to darkness in game two. The Tartans are now 15-6-1 for the season with Hiram moving to 24-15.
McGee Earns UAA Pitcher of the Week for Third Time

Carnegie Mellon University junior Scotty McGee (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Huntington Beach) was honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) on Tuesday as the UAA Softball Pitcher of the Week. The honor marks the third of the year for McGee.
Newly Regionally Ranked Tartans Sweep Oberlin

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team, who entered the regional rankings for the first time in program history at seventh in the central region, traveled to Oberlin College for a doubleheader which they swept by 5-0 and 4-3 scores. The Tartans are now 14-5-1 for the season while Oberlin falls to 2-6.
Delacruz Leads Tartans at Plate and in Circle Against Allegheny

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team moved to 12-5-1 for the year after sweeping a doubleheader at Allegheny College on Tuesday, April 27 after more than a week off from action. The Tartans took game one by a 12-8 score behind the pitching and offense from junior Gwen Delacruz (Laguna Nigel, Calif. / Aliso Niguel) while freshman Addy Sewack (Needham, Mass. / Noble and Greenough) hit the first home run of her career to help the team to an 8-2 game two win.
Bermudez Homers Twice, Bruneau Extends Hitting Steak in Sweep at Franciscan

Sophomore Isabel Bermudez (Austin, Texas / Dripping Springs) homered twice on the day with sophomore Tessa Bruneau (Edgewater Park, N.J. / Holy Cross Prep) extending her hitting streak to a program-best 10 games, as the Carnegie Mellon University softball team won a pair of games at Franciscan University on Thursday, April 15. The Tartans took game one by an 18-0 score in five innings while tying a program-best for hits with 23. They then rallied in game two to score five in the seventh inning to win 8-4 to move their season record to 10-5-1.
Tartans Sweep Pitt-Greensburg; Celebrate Lone Senior Brittany Pierce

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team took a pair of games from Pitt-Greensburg this afternoon on its home field at UPMC All-American Park in Trafford, Pennsylvania with a game one 4-2 win and a game two 7-4 win. The Tartans move to 8-5-1 for the year with junior Scotty McGee (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Huntington Beach) earning the win in game one and sophomore Adriana Agosta (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) earning the win in game two.
McGee Named UAA PItcher of the Week for Second Straight Week

Junior pitcher Scotty McGee (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Huntington Beach) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week to earn the fourth award of her career.
Tartans Split Doubleheader at Penn State Behrend

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team traveled to northwestern Pennsylvania for a doubleheader against Penn State Behrend on Monday, April 5. The Tartans were victorious in game one by a 6-2 score with the Lions coming from behind to win 5-4 in five innings due to darkness in game two. The Tartans are now 6-5-1 for the season.

Holquist Homers as Tartans Win One, Tie Another

Junior Megan Holquist (Ellicott City, Md. / Mount Hebron) hit her first career home run in a 7-0 game-one victory at Mount Aloysius College on Tuesday, March 30 , as the Tartans tied the Mounties 7-7 in game two which was called due to darkness after the seventh inning. The Tartans are now 5-4-1 for the season.

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team hosted Penn State Behrend on Friday, March 26 for a doubleheader splitting action with a 5-0 win in game one and a 7-6 loss in game two. The Tartans are now 4-4 for the season while the Lions are 3-1.
Faille Honored as UAA Softball Player of the Week

Carnegie Mellon University softball junior Summer Faille (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) was honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) as the UAA Softball Player of the Week for her performance during the opening week of the season for the Tartans.
Bermudez Homers but Tartans Falter in Road Doubleheader at Geneva

The Carnegie Mellon University softball team traveled north to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, to play Geneva College on Monday, March 22, falling twice the the Golden Tornadoes who are now 11-3 for the season. The Tartans are even at 3-3 after Geneva won game one by a 6-1 score and game two, 11-3.
