Holquist Homers as Tartans Win One, Tie Another

(CRESSON, Pa.) - Junior Megan Holquist (Ellicott City, Md. / Mount Hebron) hit her first career home run in a 7-0 game-one victory at Mount Aloysius College on Tuesday, March 30 , as the Tartans tied the Mounties 7-7 in game two which was called due to darkness after the seventh inning. The Tartans are now 5-4-1 for the season.

Game 1 - Tartans 7 Mount Aloysius 0

The Tartans scored six runs in the top of the first inning and added a seventh in the seventh inning to move to 5-4 for the year. Junior Emily Song (Mount Arlington, N.J. / Roxbury) led off the game with a single down the third baseline and stole second base on the first pitch to sophomore Tessa Bruneau (Edgewater Park, N.J. / Holy Cross Prep). Bruneau then singled to third to advance Song and stole second during the next at bat. After junior Megan Hu (Katy, Texas / Seven Lakes) walked to load the bases, sophomore Piper Johnson (Riverside, Calif. / Martin Luther King) hit a line drive to center field to score both Song and Bruneau.

After an out was recorded, sophomore Emily Finger (Aurora, Ill. / Metea Valley) singled up the middle to score both Hu and Johnson for a 4-0 lead. Then Holquist came to the plate and hit her first home run over the left field wall to make it 6-0 in the first inning.

Bruneau added an RBI in the seventh when she singled up the middle to score junior Gwen Delacruz (Laguna Nigel, Calif. / Aliso Niguel) who reached on a single to center field and advanced to second on an infield out by Song.

Recently named University Athletic Association (UAA) Pitcher of the Week, junior Scotty McGee (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Huntington Beach), pitched her second straight shutout and recorded a career-best 15 strikeouts.

Game 2 - Tartans 7 Mount Aloysius 7

The Tartans collected 13 hits for the game and led 7-6 going into the bottom of the seventh but were unable to keep the Mounties off the score board and the game ended in a 7-7 draw due to darkness.

Hu, sophomore Isabel Bermudez (Austin, Texas / Dripping Springs), and Finger each had three hits in the game with Hu and Finger knocking in two runs apiece. Two of Hu's hits were doubles which bring her season total to three.
