(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) – The Carnegie Mellon University softball team fell 2-0 with Washington University in St. Louis scoring two runs late on Sunday, April 9. The Tartans are now 14-16 overall and 4-8 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while the Bears move to 13-15 and 5-7.
How it Happened
- It was a pitcher's duel through five innings with junior Amanda Smith giving up three hits but not allowing a runner past second.
- In the sixth inning, the Bears were able to string together three hits, including two doubles, to score the game's only runs.
- Sophomore Abbey Reese singled with one out in the top of the seventh inning but was eliminated from the bases on a fielder's choice play with sophomore Faith Lawrence reaching first. After a walk, the final out was recorded with a strikeout.
- Senior Piper Johnson and Lawrence recorded the other two hits of the game for the Tartans.

The Tartans will host eighth-ranked Case Western Reserve University on Friday, April 14 for a single game before a doubleheader on Saturday, April 15 and a series finale on Sunday, April 16.
