Seniors Record Multiple Hits in Last Game as Tartans

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University softball team closed its season on Sunday, April 23 against Emory University at All-American Park in Trafford, Pennsylvania. The Eagle took home the win, 18-7, but the Tartan seniors had a day to close their careers by each recording two hits in their final game. The Tartans end the year with a 15-23 record.

How it Happened

• Emory broke the game open in the third inning with 12 runs off nine hits to lead 15-0.
• The Tartans scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Senior Piper Johnson recorded her second hit of the game with a single up the middle that plated two runs.
• Johnson tagged up from second on a fly out by sophomore Faith Lawrence and then scored on an RBI single by senior Emily Finger.
• Finger and sophomore Allie Rome, who reached on single, then scored on a double to left field by freshman Koko Sagae for the fourth and fifth runs of the inning.
• Emory added three runs in the fifth inning to lead 18-5.
• The Tartans put two more runs on the board in the fifth when Lawrence singled up the middle to score sophomore Libby Eichberger who reached on an infield single and Johnson who walked with two outs.
• Finger singled to center field to extend the inning but the Eagles were able to get the last out on a pop up to second base to finish the game.

Notes

• Johnson closed her career with the second most hits in program history with 105, second most RBIs with 65, and a batting average of .351.
• Finger finished her career with the fifth most hits in program history with 81 and fourth most RBIs with 40.
• Four players collected 40 or more hits for the season with freshman Kira Monji knocking out 50 hits for a new season record.
• Boucher recorded three season records: 30 runs scored, 28 RBIs and 21 stolen bases.
