Four Score in Double Figures as Tartans Defeat Penn State Altoona

(ALTOONA, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team defeated Penn State Altoona Monday evening 88-27 behind four players scoring in double digits. It was the second game in a row in which the Tartans scored at least 88 points, as they shot 54.7% from the floor for the game.

The Tartans (4-1) held Altoona (0-4) to a 17.7% shooting perfomance and forced 32 turnovers which they turned into 32 points.

The game opened with a 20-point run by the Tartans in which junior Jacquie Shaw (Portland, Ore./Grant) scored the first four, freshman Lindsay Poss (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) scored nine straight and sophomore Gabrielle West (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) finished it with seven straight.

Altoona got its first basket of the game with 9:15 to go in the first half when Alidia Strouse scored off an offensive rebound. The Tartans closed the period with a 25-12 run to lead 45-14 at the break.

The Tartans scored 66% of their points inside the arc including 38 points in the paint. The team outrebounded Altoona 45-23 as senior Tori Baggio (Coopersburg, Pa./Spingside) pulled down a career-high 12 boards to lead the team.

Freshman Mathea Tenwalde (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) scored a career-high 15 points while West finished with a game-high 16 points. Poss and freshman Liza Otto (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) also scored in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Again the Tartans passed the ball around as they assisted on 29 of their 35 baskets. Sophomore Chandler Caufield (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) tied a season-high five assists as sophomore MacKenzie Boyd (Plano, Texas/Plano West) also had a season-high five assists.

The Tartans play again on Wednesday, November 28 when they host Hiram College (3-1) at 6:00 p.m. in Skibo Gymnasium.
